William J. Hallett

Attorney

William J. Hallett is an attorney who focuses his practice on civil litigation, including cases involving motor vehicle accidents, dog bites, slip and fall injuries, construction accidents, and insurance disputes. He has successfully resolved matters through trial, negotiation, mediation, and arbitration.

A Buffalo native from the Amherst area, Bill now lives in Tonawanda. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University at Buffalo School of Law and his Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Journalism from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Bill’s interest in law began early when, at age ten, he wrote to the Erie County District Attorney asking to shadow him for a day. That experience sparked his passion for the justice system and for helping others. He finds great fulfillment in representing individuals who have been injured through no fault of their own and guiding them through what is often their first experience with the legal system.

In addition to advocating for his clients, Bill is active in the legal community. He has presented through the Erie County Bar Association, guest lectured at the University at Buffalo School of Law and Monroe Community College, and peer-edited A Paralegal’s Guide to New York State Civil Procedure (Carosa, 2021). He is a member of the Inns of Court, Western New York Trial Lawyers Association, Erie County Bar Association, and New York State Bar Association. He has also been appointed by judges in Erie County to serve as a Court Evaluator, Receiver, Guardian, and Attorney for Alleged Incapacitated Persons.

Bill is admitted to practice in all state courts of New York and New Jersey, as well as in the United States District Court and United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of New York, the United States Court of Federal Claims, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Outside of work, Bill enjoys spending time with his family, friends, and dog, along with baking, DIY home projects, and reading. He is conversationally fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and once donated a kidney to his college roommate.
